New Level, New Game Mode.
This month has held some major developments for Kieru, making May jam packed with good news!
Alongside character movement improvements, We’ve been working hard on a dynamic music system with tracks from the very talented Kevin Penkin. We have a new level in the works and we’ve made some leaps and bounds with our menu UI, but the biggest news of all is a very exciting announcement;
Kieru has an all new game mode!
The new Cart game mode pits two teams against each other to either attack or defend the merchant and his cart. The attackers must steal from the merchant and deliver the goods to drop zones around the map. The defenders must stop this from happening until the merchant ends his delivery route.
The packages themselves add a level of difficulty for the attackers as they must steal freshly severed heads from the merchant. These heads gush blood making hiding almost impossible for the attacker.
Of course the aim of the game is to remain stealthy and take out the enemy, but this new game mode encourages teamwork, coordination and timing.
This cart game mode will also show off our biggest map yet;
The Ashima Power Plant.
The Ashima Power Plant sits on the outskirts of the desert city 'Sunagakure' (place holder) and is protected from sand storms by an enormous wall that surrounds the city borders.
The theme of the level blends old western taverns and saloons with industrial structures and factories, creating a very unique, steampunk-esque setting.
Music and Menus
We've gotten lucky enough to work with some super talented contractors.
First on the block is this sweet test menu. Super early stages but still so cool.
We’ve been working very closely with our composer for a while now but we finally have music in the build, with tempo and rhythm changing based on what you’re doing.
Hiding out in the shadows? The music remains calm and quiet. Slicing up your enemies in bloody combat? The music ramps up, matching the intensity of the current situation.
The early stages of the implementation are super promising and very cool.
Whats Coming up next?
With all the moving parts of Kieru coming together, very soon we'll almost have all the core components of Kieru in-game. While we still have a LOT of polish to do, its awesome to be working with all these different aspects that make up a finished game.
Sound effects are the next big hurdle and that will add a lot to the polish and moment to moment game play as players will soon need to listen out for their enemies as well as making sure they themselves are being as stealthy as possible.
